10.06.2010 - BELEN ELEKTRIK SIGNED WITH PROPARCO A 11.5 MILLION EUROS LOAN AGREEMENT FOR THE FINANCING OF A 30 MW WIND FARM

Belen Elektrik, a firm of the Guris group, and Proparco, the private sector subsidiary of the French Development Agency (AFD) group, signed today a long term loan agreement of 11.5 million euros for the financing, alongside other banks, of a 30 MW wind farm in Belen, Hatay, in the south east of Turkey.

The Belen project will contribute to increase the renewable energy production capacity of Turkey in the context of a growing demand. Green house gas emissions that will be saved through this project are estimated to be 60 000 tCO2eq per year. The Belen project has been certified “Gold Standard”, a high quality carbon credit label that has already allowed the company to sell, further than electricity, Voluntary Emission Reductions (VERs) on the carbon voluntary market.

Since the inception of its activities in Turkey in 2004, the AFD group committed close to 1 billion euros in the country, half of this amount being allocated to support low carbon investments.

01.06.2010 - Visite of Mr. Bernard Emié, Ambassador of France to Turkey, in Diyarbakir

 

At the occasion of its visit to Diyarbakir,  Mr Bernard Emié, Ambassador of France to Turkey, visited Asenka Marble City, a fast growing and export oriented marble producer. Asenka received a loan from AFD – Halkbank line of credit dedicated to SME s’ of Est Anatolia.

11-13.04.2010 DAMASCUS (Syria) : Regional Conference on sustainable urban transport

As part of the programme «sustainable urban transport» of the Marseille Center for Mediterranean Integration, the French Development Agency is setting up a cycle of six meetings on 3 years : 2010-2012, registration’s fees free. The Damascus Conference, organized with CODATU’s support will be the first event of it.

Four main themes will be tackled: strategic framework, multimodal integration, urban structuring, environmental and social impacts. They will be studied thoroughly and continuously during the next meetings: four thematic workshops organized every semester between the end of 2010 and the beginning of 2012.

A closing regional conference will review and the capitalize this work during the last quarter of 2012.

The meeting’s place will be alternately chosen in the South and North of the Mediterranean region. The main goal of the three years cycle of six meetings is to create a shared Mediterranean culture of good practices in sustainable urban transport.

The Agence Française de Développement (AFD), The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the World Bank co-hosted a Marketplace on Innovative Financial Solutions for Development held in Paris on March 4-5, 2010. The Marketplace seeks to garner and highlight fresh ideas on financial solutions for development. It is dedicated to innovative financial mechanisms for better mobilizing, channeling, and using funds.

The Marketplace bought together an internationally diverse set of hundreds of development practitioners, donors, philanthropists, social entrepreneurs, academics, representatives from a range of financial institutions, civil society, and policy makers.

01.01.2010 - AFD soutient la fondation TEMA

L'AFD soutient l'association de défense de la nature TEMA (Türkiye Erozyonla Mücadele Ağaçlandırma ve Doğal Varlıkları Koruma Vakfı : Fondation turque de reboisement, de prévention de l'érosion et de protection de l'environnement).

La fondation TEMA a été créée en 1992 par Hayrettin Karaca, et Nihat Gökyiğit. Son objectif principal est de sensibiliser l'opinion publique sur l'enjeu que représentent pour la Turquie les questions environnementales. Erosion, déboisement, baisse de production des terres cultivées, ou réduction de la biodiversité sont les thèmes principaux pour lesquels les fondateurs de TEMA ont choisi d'agir. Les membres de la fondation comptent notamment dans leurs rangs 126 parlementaires turcs et 3 membres du Parlement Européen. TEMA travaille en collaboration avec un conseil scientifique composé de 54 chercheurs issus du milieu universitaire turc.

The AFD will organize on October 6th, during the upcoming 2008 Annual Meetings Boards of Governors of the World Bank and the IMF in Istanbul, a side event called:
Building Successful Investments in the Food Chain across Africa - African Agriculture Fund. The AAF has been initiated by the AFD, African Development Bank, Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), International Fund for Agricultural Development and Banque Ouest Africaine de Développement  to promote a new private equity fund established to focus on food production throughout the continent of Africa. The Fund managed by Phatisa will target the entire range of food related agribusinesses from agriculture, through processing to services ands infrastructure".

The AFD will organise on October 6th, during the upcoming 2008 Annual Meetings Boards of Governors of the World Bank and the IMF in Istanbul, a side event called: Banks in favour of development: Promoting SME Competitiveness through CSR. Based on the AFD’s experience with its banking partners, 6 panelists will engage in a discussion and an exchange of their respective experience. 16.06.2009 - Conference about decentralisation in Turquie

Le 16 juin 2009 s'est tenue une conférence coorganisée par l'Université de Galatasaray, l'AFD, le Fonds d'Analyse des Sociétés Politiques (FASOPO).

Cette rencontre a porté sur le thème de la décentralisation en Turquie, analysée à travers le spectre des sciences sociales.

L'événement aura lieu à l'Université de Galatasaray et a fait intervenir de nombreux chercheurs turcs et français.

05.06.2009 - HOME

 The movie HOME, directed by French photgrapher Yann Arthus-Bertrand and produced by Luc Besson, brings wonder and concern about the environmental and social state of the world, delivering its message through beatiful aerial images of the Earth.

In Turkey, AFD, together with its partner TEB organised the broadcasting of the film on 5th June 2009 in Istanbul.

13.05.2009 - Bernard Emié, French Ambassador in Ankara visiting AFD

Son Excellence Bernard Emié, Ambassadeur de France à Ankara, a rendu visite à l'Agence Française de Développement à Istanbul le mercredi 13 mai 2009. Les activités de l'AFD en Truquie ont été évoquées, en particulier le soutien aux municipalités et les projets de soutien à l'environnement et l'éducation.
